Rules

These regulations apply to all sections:

1)  Films submitted must have been completed not earlier than January 1, 2010.

2)   Films may not have been released theatrically or shown online or television in the U.S.A. prior to the festival.

3)  The NYHKFF presents all films in their original language. Non-English language films must have English subtitles.

4)  If you are submitting a work- in- progress, the screener or DVD must be clearly marked as a work- in- progress or rough cut.

5)  The submitting filmmaker is responsible for the mailing/shipping cost of his/her work, both for the submitted cut for consideration and, upon selection, the final screener for presentation at the festival.

6)  The NYHKFF will exhibit only on digital (dvd or blu-ray) format.

7)  Entry fees are in U.S. dollars, per film and non-refundable.

8)  Submitting filmmakers/individuals will be notified by e-mail, phone or fax no later than August 8, 2011.

9)  We prefer and encourage all submissions through www.withoutabox.com.
However, if you prefer, you can submit with payment, and mail or drop off directly to:

Please mark the specific category submission outside your envelope, mailer or package. Inside, the screener must be labeled with the contact info (name/ph/email), the work’s title, the name of the director, the running time, and preferably include a note bearing at least a one-sentence description of the film.  Filmmakers are welcome to submit a synopsis and/or press kit with the entry.

10)      All submitted entry materials will not be returned unless requested and accompanied by a prepaid mailer (make sure it has the right amount of postage).

11)      Films officially selected will be shown in the section that the festival programmers deem and determine most appropriate for the selected film.

12)      A filmmaker with multiple entries must submit each entry on a separate DVD.

13)      The submitted dvd or screener must be formatted for multi-zone or multi-region or specifically for North America, labeled with the contact info (name/phone/email), the work’s title, the name of the director, the running time, and preferably with a note bearing at least a one-sentence description of the film.  Filmmakers are welcome to submit a synopsis and/or press kit with the entry.

14)  If your work is selected, you must fulfill the following requirements by the date(s) designated by the Festival upon invitation:
(a) You will be required to execute a release and agreement wherein you (i) accept responsibility for obtaining any and all clearances if necessary to exhibit your film at the New York Hell’s Kitchen Film Festival, warrant that you have the rights necessary to exhibit your film at the New York Hell’s Kitchen Film Festival, indemnify and hold harmless New York Hell’s Kitchen Film Festival, LLC and the Producers’ Club, and all its affiliated individuals and organizations, against any claim arising out of exhibition of your film at the New York Hell’s Kitchen Film Festival.
(b) You will be responsible for delivery of the exhibition copy of the invited work in the requested exhibition format specified below to the address designated by the Festival. The Festival may or may not choose to cover the cost of the return shipping of the dvd/screener/viewing material after the conclusion of the Festival. We recommend shipment via courier in order to permit the tracking of your entry once it leaves your hands and our film festival.  We exhibit in dvd or blu-ray. Films in competition may be required to provide a second exhibition copy to accommodate juror screenings.  The Festival has the right to ask for a dvd and/or blu-ray for the festival presentation that will have no violators, watermark, burned-in markings (i.e. saying “only for screening purposes”) In addition, additional exhibition copies may be requested for multiple screenings at more than one venue
(c) You will provide at least one DVD copy of the finalized and completed film for Festival archives.
(d) If you accept the invitation for your film to be shown at the NYHKFF 2011, you will not be allowed to withdraw the selected film from the film festival.  If you do, unless amicably and mutually agreed upon, you will be responsible in reimbursing all the cost incurred in promoting the film, advertising, publication of materials, and any potential damages, material and/or otherwise, to the film festival. Any and all legal disputes will be held in New York City Court.
e)  The New York Hell’s Kitchen Film Festival, LLC and the Producers’ Club reserve all rights pertaining to the rules, regulations, criteria, and guidelines of this festival.

This competitive category is for English-language narrative films or digital videos that are 65 MINUTES OR LONGER.  Please submit any narrative projects that are less than 65 minutes in the short category.

Student Films, Competition
This competitive category is for student film features, directed by current or former students while in school.  It is required that the submitted student film was completed within the last year (i.e. not earlier than January 1, 2010).  It can be in any language or of any length, genre, be it narrative or nonfiction. This includes films made inside the classroom, outside the classroom, films made individually or with a group, and films made with and without professorial supervision.  (Students include high school, college and post-grad levels.)

PLEASE NOTE: Student Film submissions must be accompanied by a copy of the filmmakers Student ID. Also, you must note whether you are an undergrad or graduate student.

This competitive category is for a filmed or videotaped rendition of a recorded song.    Whether short or long form, it should not be longer than 10 minutes. The music/song can be in any language.  This category accepts submissions from professionals as well as students.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

AGREEMENT/ RELEASE
I, the undersigned, acknowledge and agree as follows:
A. I have read, understood and complied with all eligibility requirements. To the best of my knowledge, all of the statements in this document are true.
B. This film is not subject to litigation and is not threatened by any litigations.
C. I hold the New York Hell’s Kitchen Film Festival completely harmless from and legally not responsible for any possible damage, piracy or loss of the submitted material en route to and from and during the course of its possession by the said Festival.
D. I am duly authorized to submit this film to the New York Hell’s Kitchen Film Festival.
E. If the film is selected for the NYHKFF, I give permission for the said festival to use images, sounds, and excerpts from the work for promotional purposes n all media and on the NYHKFF website.
